For many, many years I worked as a Navy Recruiter. I had the privilege of working events with the Navy Band. Tonight, was the first time I was able to sit in the audience, and just enjoy these amazingly talented musicians. It may be hard to believe but getting a job as a musician is one of the hardest jobs to obtain. First, of course, one needs to meet all the basic requirements of every sailor. Then the have to play multiple instruments, sight-read music and do an audition with one of the Navy bands. In 17 years of recruiting, I have only successfully obtained one. It was truly wonderful to have the opportunity to enjoy them as they opened the New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival to a full house at the Branon Center.
Marc Monteson aka mister music as he is known in New Smyrna Beach. Has been organizing and promoting the Jazz Festival for the last 19 years. This year’s festival will be spectacular. There is music planed from the Beach all through the Historic District. Make sure you take the opportunity to enjoy a dinner out while taking in some of the music during the Jazz Festival.
If your looking for something to do this weekend that is a little more special than your normal weekend getaway this is the place to be. The beach weather is amazing and we still have two open rooms while they last.
